250 years on - the evolution of the factory in 2021

As the world’s first factory, celebrates his 250th birthday, fast forward 250 years on 50 miles away in the West Midlands a team of engineers based at the MTC are working with a range of industrial partners to re-define a modern, modular, mobile factory, ready to deploy anywhere in the world and constructed in a box. Funded by Innovate UK and ERA and led by the MTC’s engineering teams, this webinar will also detail the potential for the customisable factory in a box as well as showcase ways for new industrial partners to engage in a series of new, funded production led projects at the MTC’s new Digital Manufacturing Accelerator team in Liverpool.

Led by the Mandy Hickson this session looks at what makes great teams and leaders. Mandy was the only female pilot on her Front Line Tornado Squadron, flying multimillion pound fast jets for the Royal Air Force. She has operated in hostile environments, including patrolling the ‘No Fly’ zone over Iraq. Carrying the latest weaponry she and her unit were ready to drop ordnance on any target in support of operations. Mandy now draws on her experiences of strategic decision-making, leadership under pressure and communication to inspire others.

Team Work and Collaboration – Going for Gold in Tokyo 2021

Successful projects are rarely completed by individuals, but by teams; coming together and working towards a collective goal and creating synergies by combining their skills and expertise. As manufacturing led projects are rarely linear, they often require multiple skills as individuals come together and new teams are created. This session will be led by MTC Ambassador and Paralympic para-canoe gold medallist Emma Wiggs as she provides a rare insight into the inner workings of the team that support her efforts to compete in Tokyo 2021. Emma will then be joined by senior engineers from the MTC and National Composites Centre (NCC) to discuss their ground breaking collaboration to build a completely new, bespoke, composite paddle, to help propel Emma to her second Paralympic gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.
