Andy Pye is a technical writer, editor and journalist specialising in manufacturing and engineering technology. Born in Colchester, he read Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, specialising in Metallurgy and Materials Science.

The role encompasses specialist technical writing and editorial advice across Smart Futures, Drives & Controls and Plant & Works Engineering. Andy has conceived and launched a series of online panel discussions called Talking Industry (www.talkingindustry.org) and advised on the launch of Smart Futures (www.smartfutures.org.uk) – which has a wide remit covering all aspects of smart technology across a wide range of market sectors, including manufacturing, medical technology, advanced materials, construction, agriculture, cybersecurity and green technology.

In a past life, Andy was Managing Editor and major shareholder in Pro-Talk, a pioneering venture aimed at reproducing online what publishers had hitherto provided in print for the B2B sector. Launched in 1999, the system mushroomed to 13 online publications and by 2006 employed 38 people, most working remotely. It was sold to Centaur Publishing for £4.6 million in 2006. Andy’s role as a director encompassed managing the team of technical editors and running the commercial aspects of the business.

Andy has a secondary interest in junior cricket coaching and runs a recreational sports management business. Approaching 68, he still plays cricket, including for the Kent Over 60s! 

Andy is married with two grown-up children; wife and children are bilingual Italian-English.
